Student & Family Handbook

Policies below are preliminary. A complete handbook, refund and withdrawal agreement, emergency procedures, and final enrollment contract must be approved before registration opens.

Attendance & Punctuality

Consistent participation, timely arrival, and advance communication about absences are expected. Students must have reasonable access to water, restroom breaks, and necessary accommodations.

Professionalism & Etiquette

Students learn ensemble responsibility, respectful communication, presentation, theatre etiquette, and professional rehearsal habits. Instruction must preserve student dignity.

Training & Dress

The DBCOPA uniform, lapa, and student notebook are provided through the one-time $120 enrollment fee. Families are responsible for purchasing jazz shoes and other required dance footwear from Capezio or another dancewear retailer. Student uniform and lapa sizes are requested on the family registration form and will be confirmed before ordering.

Enrollment & Availability

The inaugural program has 50 student places. Applications are considered first come, first served among eligible students who complete all required enrollment steps, subject to availability and DBCOPA acceptance. Submitting the online registration form is an application only; it does not reserve or guarantee a place. An automatic receipt email is not an acceptance notice. A student place is secured only after DBCOPA issues written acceptance and receives the required enrollment payment. Payment instructions will be sent separately. Families will be contacted regarding next steps and uniform sizing.

Safety & Family Communication

Guardian contact details, authorized pickup arrangements, emergency plans, volunteer screening, and supervision requirements will be confirmed before opening. Up to four screened Class Parent volunteers per division may assist with approved non-instructional duties under staff supervision. Volunteers do not replace qualified educators or required student supervision.

Excursions & Media

Separate guardian permission and emergency contact procedures will apply to off-site activities. Photo/video permissions will be optional and separately requested.

Tuition, Withdrawals & Refunds

For the January–August 2027 inaugural season, families may choose one pay-in-full payment of $6,500 (including the one-time $120 enrollment fee), or eight monthly tuition payments of $800 (total tuition $6,400) plus the one-time $120 enrollment fee (total $6,520). Paying in full saves $20. The $120 enrollment fee includes the DBCOPA uniform, lapa, and student notebook. Families purchase jazz shoes and any other required dance footwear separately from Capezio or another dancewear retailer. The $120 enrollment fee is paid separately after registration to reserve an available place. For the monthly plan, January tuition of $800 is due December 15, 2026, with a five-day grace period through December 20, 2026. February–August 2027 tuition of $800 per month is due on the first of each month, with a five-day grace period. For the pay-in-full plan, the $120 enrollment fee counts toward the $6,500 total; after that separate fee is paid, the remaining $6,380 is due December 15, 2026, with a grace period through December 20, 2026. Do not pay the enrollment fee twice. The September 2027–August 2028 academic year is planned at $800 per month for 12 months. Final due dates, grace-period terms, cancellations, refunds, failed payments, and withdrawals require a signed final agreement before payment is accepted.
